An old Cajan/German tradition in St. James Parish is to hold bonfires on the levees Christmas Eve.

Apparently the miles of bonfires (some over 40 ft. tall) are to help Santa find his way to the bayous.

Descours 2010: part architecture exhibit, part art installation series, part scavenger hunt. Fourteen installations

were hidden around New Orleans this past week. I had the privilege of visiting some of the sites with friends

and a few days later, was randomly hired to photograph each site.

The site entitled "Intense Correlations" created by Gernot Riether (pictured below) was one of my favorites.

Top: Karen came to visit for Halloween weekend and we spent an afternoon walking through cemeteries near City Park.

Bottom: I photographed Kaatalyst, a spoken work poet in Jackson Ave Evangelical Church while scouting locations for

a short film he will be starring in. He explained that he gets nervous in churches. After scoping out the place for a bit,

it was agreed upon that the location was perfect. He seemed at ease.

Against the advice of many, I decided to attend the fight night the evening after my bike accident.

I'm about to have a two day drive down to New Orleans with my sister and mother.

Emily and I just completed a lecture directed at our mother that during a road trip you need to relinquish control in order to be stress free. A great attitude to keep in mind during times of transition.

thought deteriorated a little bit more. But then my daughter was born and I want to spend every minute of every day with her," Rick Flynn

explains. Flynn spends time with his 15-month-old daughter, Arianna, in their home in Lansing. Flynn, 27, enlisted in 2002 and was deployed

to Afghanistan for seven months. Recently he was diagnosed with PTSD and receives compensation from the government.

showing of The Rocky Horror Show at the Wharton Center.

"When the opportunity comes, I go all out" Adam Ehrlich explained about dressing up as Rocky. "I'm an actor so

costumes are my favorite thing to play around with."

Gabe Cooper, 18, described his costume as "conflicted." He explained that it wasn't his idea to dress up.

Just completed the VJ Multimedia Workshop at Brooks Institute. As part of the experience I was assigned a group that created multimedia over the weekend relating to the theme "Fountain of Youth." I documented Bev Graves - an 86 year old yoga instructor

who truly embodied the notion of staying young at heart. "I always say if you aren't smiling you aren't doing it right," Graves

explained about the Iyengar method of Hatha yoga. She teaches classes three days a week at Ventura Yoga Studio.

This post is in honor of my last ribbon cutting assignment in York PA.

It was a rather unique event. St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church got a new elevator. They held a ribbon cutting

ceremony that included a few tears from participants, elevator rides and a cake decorated to look like the new contraption,

(complete with a red frosting bow.) Instead of having the usual PR agent, I got to learn about the details of the event from

Lavern Brenneman, pictured above. He helped create the event, is an enthusiast for St. Matthew's renovations and is a treasurer

and co-chair for the church's capitol campaign. He came prepared for my arrival with a handwritten press release containing

the four names of those who would be involved in the ceremony.

I covered a Palm Sunday service this morning. Halfway through, the kids got to leave and take part in their own worship service. I followed and felt like I was taking part in recess. There was pretty light and I didn't have to worry about loud shutter clicks in the middle of silent prayer.

Ruth Ross died this morning at 87. And as a last great adventure, is on her way to Berlin to be buried next to her late husband, my namesake.

I brag about her to everyone. She's the woman who shares my enthusiasm for fruit and rescuing plants from dumpsters. The tough lady who would swim 25 laps a day and traveled the world up until very recently. My grandmother who survived the Holocaust and has been like another mother to me. She always laughed and covered her face when I tried to take her photo.

I followed Teresa Snead for eight months. She is one of the most determined people I've ever met. She works over 75 hours a week, raises her four children on her own and put in the extra time to receive a home from Habitat for Humanity. If I could go back I would have shot the story a bit differently. However, I will just have to settle for the understanding that I've learned plenty that can be put to good use next time. Goodness, what a day. I started at 7 a.m. with a school bus evacuation drill in Dallastown School District. Shortly after, I was called to a fire in the city. I caught Errick Milindi watching firefighters enter his rented townhouse on W King Street.

Later in the afternoon, I spent some time with Shirley Harris and other volunteers at the Northeastern Food Pantry. Harris waited for one of her seven appointment she had that day in the pantry, located in Starview United Church of Christ.

He is reacting to a "Praise Darwin" billboard meant to honor Charles Darwin that is located down the road from his Church. Freedom From Religion Foundation were responsible for putting up the billboard in Dover, Pennsylvania and Dayton, Tennessee, both locations of significant evolution court battles.

Today I photographed Alex Rosenkreuz. He removed an oil painting from the sanctuary and plans to restore and hold onto it until the new church is complete. He is a restorer and artist whose business, Rosenkreuz Arts, has been in his family since 1905.

This is the story of my first communion

One of the oldest churches in York County burned down early Monday morning. I was sent to scope out the scene the next day

and cover a service later on. It was a bit stressful trying to find the place. The drive included many frantic phone calls and

getting lost in multiple small farm towns.

Shenberger's Chapel was destroyed by a two-alarm fire considered accidental in nature. The 111-year-old sanctuary suffered

the most, which added to an estimation of $500,000 in damages.

Mark Webb, superintendent of the York District of the United Methodist Church and Rev. Patricia Bollinger serve communion

outside the sanctuary in Chanceford Township.

Thelma Foey has been part of the congregation at Shenburger's Chapel for the past 69 years and attended the service Tuesday

afternoon. "We will rise again," she said. "God is with us."

"They're going through a lot of heartache right now," Karen Booth explained. Booth has been a member of the congregation for

nearly twenty years. She explained why an oil painting of Jesus was intact despite the severe damages nearby, "It is a miracle."

If someone were to a point a gun at my head and ask for the best reason why I should not drive a car, I would have to reply that I am far too forgetful. For a perfect example I would show them this picture. This is my coffee cup that somehow stayed on the roof of my car as I drove around looking for a weather feature unaware that I had left the cup there.

I shot a video of actors in a haunted house for my living city. The whole process was rather tricky. Quite the weekend. Went to Chicago with Jason and his housemates. Stayed in the ever so lovely condo on the 51st before shooting the football game in Evanston. I probably ate a disgusting amount of authentic Chinese food too. And was almost part of the Taiwan Independence Day Parade in Chinatown. I would have ridden on a float with Jason's parents and thrown candy out like royalty to people below. However, made the responsible choice, and opted to not be late to the game. I was allowed to take photos backstage at the Wharton Center during the College of Music Collage Concert. The whole atmosphere was like a dream. Musicians in fancy clothes bustled in and out between acts. The room was dimly lit and I was in the midst of impromptu practices/personal concerts as I photographed. I really liked this student's bow tie and the way he held his cello.

I shot the Out of Darkness Community Walk to promote suicide prevention and awareness. Found a rather adorable moment despite the nature of the walk. Jennifer Whipple kisses her grandson, Evan Knechtgs, 2, goodbye after the walk held Sunday morning at Potter Park Zoo in Lansing.

The convention is over. It was one of the most stressful, exciting, exhausting experiences of my life. Quite the learning experience.

After two long days, we are here. Tired, stressed, and with feelings of altitude sickness I am ever so glad to be out of the car.

Went to two very unique weddings this past weekend. The first was a traditional Hasidic Jewish wedding. My sister knew the bride from Israel. Men and women sat on separate sides during the ceremony and the dance floor was divided similarly. I was instructed not to "touch men," a simple handshake or bumping into someone of the opposite sex would be considered rude. Photographing the event was tricky too. I was constantly aware of myself as a female and cautious not to draw any attention to myself as a photographer. The second wedding was more personable. One of my house mates, Jake got certified online to marry his high school friends. Friends from Bower attended the reception which included mostly raw/vegan food and an untraditional ceremony. We hung out at the lake all day and then camped at the couple's new home.

It was Sam's 20th Birthday a couple weeks ago. We made Mexican food for the occasion. Also watched Princess Bride, danced, sang, and were very merry. So pretty much, the usual summer festivities.
